Bobbe McGinley, MA, MBA, LISAC, NCGC II, CADAC
Bobbe has been working in the field of Chemical Dependency since 1988, and she has worked with Problem and Compulsive gamblers since being Certified by the Arizona Council on Compulsive Gambling, Inc. in 1996 and Nationally Certified in 1999. Beginning her career at the Hazelden Foundation, Bobbe moved to Phoenix as Senior Counselor at Progress Valley, IV, and then went on to became the Addictions Program Director at Charter Hospital, and Program Manager for Trimeridian, Inc. Bobbe works in private practice, where she is now Clinical Director, Counselor and Consultant at her agency: ACT - Counseling & Education.
Sue Figueroa, MSAC, LASAC
Sue’s education includes an Associate Degree in Chemical Dependency at Rio Salado College, Bachelor and Masters Degree in Addiction Counseling. At Grand Canyon University. Sue fulfilled two of her internships at ACT under the supervision of Bobbe McGinley and the Masters’ internship at Terros Inc were she eventually, after completing her education, worked as a clinician leading Relapse Prevention Groups for individuals experiencing dependence and/or substance abuse addictions. For many years, Sue provided volunteer translation at ACT for Spanish-speaking clients. Her active participation and recovery in a 12-Step Fellowship gives Sue the understanding of how a program of recovery works in combination with professional counseling services. Sue is currently licensed by the Arizona Behavioral Board of Health to practice as a Substance Abuse Counselor to provide counseling services to individuals, couples and families experiencing the negative effects of alcohol and other drugs. She has completed the required training to provide gambling counseling services at ACT. Sue speaks fluently Spanish and English.
Jeffrey Schwartz, MSAC, LASAC
Jeff is the Director of IOP Services. He holds a Master degree in Addiction Counseling, and he is a licensed associate substance abuse counselor. Jeff has experience working with chemically dependent and gambling addicted clients providing treatment, education, and community resources, in both the individual and group setting. Jeff has received excellent gambling training and he is energetic about sharing his wisdom with gamblers and affected persons. Jeff also has eighteen months of prior experience working with DUI clients, and he has developed a program that meets all court and MVD requirements for the State of Arizona. Jeffrey's journey has provided experience as an informed referral source to 12-Step recovery, and bestowed him with a profound understanding of addiction.
Donn Yeager, MS, LASAC
Donn Yeager is a Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (LASAC) with extensive experience in the addiction treatment field. His experience includes being a Primary Therapist at Calvary Addiction Recovery Center followed by serving as Clinical Director for Recovery in the Pines in Prescott, AZ. Prior to joining the recovery field, Donn dedicated 20 years of service to our country by serving 10 years in the US Navy and 10 years in the US Marine Corps. as a Combat Medic/Hospital Corpsman and retired in 2001. During his tenure in the Military, he obtained his Airline Transport Pilot License and flew for the commercial Airlines while on active duty and for several years after. Donn has a passion for serving others and finds satisfaction in helping individuals struggling with addiction become productive citizens and witnessing that grow into family healing. We are happy to have Donn on our team here at ACT Counseling & Education. Donn’s motto is, “We are a product of what we think.” So let’s change the way we think, change our behavior and learn to love ourselves again.
Shawna Tremoulis BS, BHT
Shawna received her Associates degree in Chemical Dependency at Rio Salado College and her Bachelor's degree in Counseling with an emphasis in addiction from Grand Canyon University. Shawna is currently enrolled in the Master's program at Grand Canyon University for Addiction Counseling. Shawna interned at ACT Counseling & Education while completing her undergraduate Bachelor's degree, and she plans to do so again for her Master's internship. Shawna has been receiving supervision under Bobbe McGinley for the last 2 years.
Sonya Bryce, NCC, LPC
Sonya is a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience providing services to individuals, couples, families and groups for a variety of mental health and addiction issues. Sonya graduated from Liberty University with a Master of Arts in Counseling. She began her career working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual trauma, and moved into private practice settings working with clients across the mental health and addiction spectrum. Sonya moved to Arizona from Virginia to serve as Clinical Director for a substance abuse outpatient clinic. She has continued her work with the Chemical Dependency program at St. Luke’s Behavioral Health Center, providing addiction treatment and services for both the inpatient and outpatient populations. Sonya joined ACT Counseling and Education to continue providing services on an outpatient basis. Sonya’s clinical approach is based on Cognitive-Behavioral techniques. However, Sonya also believes in meeting people where they are, and utilizes a variety of techniques to help clients affect a positive change in their lives.
Sylvia Banks, MS, LAC
Sylvia is a licensed counselor providing Individual, Couples, Families, and Group Counseling for Mental Health, Substance/ Gambling and other addictions. Each person is unique with different needs in therapy, and Sylvia finds that the most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client. Sylvia uses an Integrative therapeutic approach that compliments the individual’s goals to promote positive change, helping each person reach their full potential. Sylvia's primary experience is working with community mental health providing services in the inpatient and outpatient settings, including alcohol and drug rehabilitation.
Matthew Wohl, BS, BHT
Matthew received his Bachelor’s degree in Addiction Studies at Minot State University in North Dakota, where he was on the Dean’s list twice, while also being a three-time President’s Honor Roll recipient. While working on his Bachelor’s degree, Matthew completed an internship at The Heartview Foundation in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he gained invaluable experience working with highly qualified clinicians in the field of addiction treatment and recovery. Matthew is currently in the process of earning his Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of South Dakota. Matthew worked as a client services manager in addiction recovery, and also as a case manager and group facilitator for a year prior to working at ACT Counseling and Education, with Bobbe McGinley.
Holly Betzer, MSAC, LASAC
Holly holds a Master Degree in Addiction Counseling, and she is a licensed associate substance abuse counselor. Holly has experience working with chemically dependent individuals providing treatment in group and individual settings. Holly has a passion for helping those struggling with addiction and underlying issues to help them understand how their underlying issues impact their lives and contribute to their addiction. She truly believes that if a client understands why they use drugs and/or alcohol to cope, they have a good opportunity of succeeding in long-term recovery. Holly is currently working on a doctoral degree of education in organizational leadership with an emphasis in behavioral health. While working as a therapist, Holly realized that she loves teaching, and Holly's goal is to teach at the university level while simultaneously working as a therapist.
Michael Sanchez, BS, BHT
Michael received a Bachelor of Science in Addiction Counseling from Ottawa University in 2016 and is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Addiction Counseling program at Grand Canyon University. Michael has been working in the field of addiction since 2015 and has helped to develop group curriculum and formats for PHP and IOP programs. Michael also has extensive experience with 12-step fellowships and brings that experience to the table. Michael served 9 years active duty in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. Michael has a passion for working with others and believes that recovery is not only possible, it is attainable; it just takes some work. Michael is currently working on creating a group format and curriculum for a MAT group to meet the needs of this unique population. Michael is dedicated to helping others recover and is passionate about inspiring hope.
Maria Harmon, MA, LPC, LISAC
Maria earned her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Argosy University and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arizona State University. Maria is licensed by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor. She is trained in E.M.D.R. (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which is an evidence based therapeutic modality which helps individuals to process adult and childhood traumas. Maria offers directive, insight-oriented therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups recovering from painful life history and current difficulties, such as trauma and abuse; depression and anxiety; intimacy and connection; addictive behaviors and effects caused by others’ addictive behaviors; shame and guilt; grief and loss; and individuals who feel ‘stuck’ in old ways of thinking and behaving. She especially enjoys providing specialized therapy toward healing and restructuring to post-substance-abuse-treatment couples and families. In offering a safe, nurturing, therapeutic environment, Maria receives satisfaction in her work through witnessing her patients’ growth and personal empowerment. Maria was raised in Japan for most of her childhood and speaks fluent Japanese.
Brough Stewart, MC, LPC, NCC
Brough has over 30 years of experience working in the mental health/addiction treatment field, working for The Meadows, The John Bradshaw Center, Charter Behavioral Health, Banner Behavioral Health, Calvary Addiction Recovery Center, and the Sundance Center in Scottsdale. Brough specializes in addictions, individual, couples, and family therapy. Brough is very well connected to recovery and behavioral resources in Arizona and throughout the country.
